Interactive Checker Speeding Speed

Do you think you've been caught speeding recently?

You may be eligible to take a speed awareness course as an alternative to penalty points (and a fine).

There are several factors that will affect your chances, which is why we've created the SpeedUlator Speed Awareness Course Checker. It's interactive, easy to use and will help you decide what to do next.

Try the Speed-U-Lator here:

Simply click on the relevant answer and you'll be led through the next steps.

If you now know from our checker that you will not be offered a speed awareness course, why not read through some of the other options available to you in our speeding section.

Hi I just done driving awareness course 2-3 months ago for redlight. I just been caught by police van speed camera doing just one mileyes one mile over the threshold 79 on dual carriageway (70 )cought doing 80. Do I qualify for speed awareness course as traffic light is different to speed one or are they considered the same. If so how many points will I get? 3 or 6? Thank you

Timbo - Your Question:
I paid a fixed penalty over the phone & sent my driving licence in well within time allowed. Now they have sent me back my licence & repaid the fixed penalty claiming I did not pay on time & they intended to summons me. They refused to confirm to me in writing that I was in time but instead sent me a letter saying it had to to to court. I emailed a request for information & stated I had the recordings of my conversation & got a very rapid reply asking me if I was able to send my licence & payment again. I repeated my request & asked for them to send me a confirmation that I had paid the fixed penalty in plenty of time & the paperwork issued by the was incorrect. What should I do?If they have to reissue the notice I believe they will be out of time?

Our Response:
You should be able to get a log of your phone calls, which should prove the date you made the payment. If it goes to court, this should be sufficient evidence.

Dewy - Your Question:
Can I do a National motorway awareness course if I have already done a speed awareness course in the last 3 years

Our Response:
Were you caught speeding? If so, then the only course that will apply is the speed awareness course (which as you rightly point out, won't be offered if you've already done one in the past three years).

Twinkle - Your Question:
After reading through these pages I can see that if you recieve a speeding notice after 14 days you can ask for it to be withdrawn?I was stopped by police for speeding on 31/10/2016. I recieved a single justice procedure notice on 22/04/2017 (6 months after the offence)I sent back within the 21 days pleading guilty. I had an £800 fine and 6 points, I am having to pay the fine in instalmentsIs there anything I can do now as it was 6 months after the offence that I got the notice? Or is it too late because I pleaded guilty?

Our Response:
No, SJPN is usually sent if an initial communication has been ignored. It's likely you will incur further costs etc if you take it back to court.

Princy - Your Question:
I have 3 points on my licence I recieved a ticket of speeding but the speed is on speed awareness course zone can I still do it despite 3 points?

Our Response:
There is no reason why you could not be offered a speed awareness course place even though you already have 3 points to your licence. The courses are always offered at the discretion of the police, so we can't say for sure whether they will offer one in this instance.

Rollsroyce - Your Question:
Does anyone know how I can check when I last went on a speed awareness course? It was roughly 3 years afo but im not to sure when exactly. Would be much appreciated if anyone can help me thanks

Our Response:
Contact the course provider or the venue where you attended the course. Failing that the police authority for the area in which you were caught speeding should have a record of the offence date.

I was caught on the same day twice northbound and southbound. One being my first offence and then obviously my second offence. First offence in the morning I was doing 84 in a 70 and they have offered me a speed awareness course, second in the evening same spot but southbound I was doing 88 in a 70 and I have been told 3 points and a fine which I'm fine with. What I need to know is because I've been caught twice can I still take the speed awareness course the first offence and then accept the three points for the second or does getting caught in the evening rule out my eligibility for the speed awareness course?

First offence, 63 on a 50 zone. The cut off speed for the awareness course is if you're doing 64 or over but I just done 63 (this was on March) so new laws will not apply. Will I get awareness course option? Would be great to get a reply, thank you

Kaps - Your Question:
I was recently caught doing 36 in a 30 zone by a mobile camera unit. I was unsure who the driver could be as myself , my wife and my father in law all took the car within a 30minute period along that same stretch of road which is just around the corner from my house. My wife to drop off the kids , father in law to buy a newspaper , after which I travelled to work. They have sent me photographic evidence but it clearly states on the letter "The photographic evidence is to identify the vehicle only and not the driver." you can just about make out the driver (me) but I don't want to break any rules by using a photo which they clearly say is to identify the vehicle ONLY !? What should I do

Our Response:
You can request further photos if you're unsure who could have been driving.
