Interactive Checker Speeding Speed

Do you think you've been caught speeding recently?

You may be eligible to take a speed awareness course as an alternative to penalty points (and a fine).

There are several factors that will affect your chances, which is why we've created the SpeedUlator Speed Awareness Course Checker. It's interactive, easy to use and will help you decide what to do next.

Try the Speed-U-Lator here:

Simply click on the relevant answer and you'll be led through the next steps.

If you now know from our checker that you will not be offered a speed awareness course, why not read through some of the other options available to you in our speeding section.

twowheelfan - Your Question:
I was recently flashed by a camera whilst riding my motorcycle in a 30 mile an hour area, I have received a NIP and am considering an appeal as a car pulled out of a junction in my direction requiring me to accelerate to avoid an accident, the camera is right after the junction and recorded my speed as 37.I already have 6 points on my licence ( due to reach 3 years in Sep and Dec respectively ) and have since been ultra careful as a result.Am I on a hiding to nothing or is there a reasonable chance of the points being waved? Many thanks

Our Response:
We can't really advise on this. If the points are crucial, it might be worth seeing if you can speak to a motoring lawyer with regard to pleading mitigation. On the other hand, there's a chance you may be offered a speed awareness course, in which case, you will not be adding to your current points total.

Liz - Your Question:
My insurers need to know the date I did a speed awareness course. I have no idea so how do I find out. I think it was Thames Valley Police but they cant tell me and the course provider (AA DriveTech) don't keep records longer than 6 months. Please Help! My insurance runs out in 2 days!

Our Response:
How did you pay for the course...could your credit card statements or bank statements help?

taz - Your Question:
Hi, I got a NIP on 26/01/2017, Notice issue date 24/01/2017. date of offence 08/01/2017. I rejected the NIP based on section 1 (3) of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988. i just had correspondence stating that; the Notice was sent to me by first class, on 11/01/2017. how is this possible? when the Notice issue Date is 24/01/2017.

Our Response:
If the actual NIP is dated 24th January we think you have a case, unless they can prove it was sent elsewhere in the interim (i.e if you're not the registered keeper etc).

Hi I have participated in a speed awareness course during the last 5 years. I am trying to get insurance and am being asked when I took the course. I did not keep a record. Is there a way I can look up somewhere when I took the course? It took place in Hampshire. Thanks.

Hi, I have been caught speeding at 73mph on 60mph road by a traffic camera. The notice is issued by Devon and Cornwall Police. The NIP received does not specify any Speed Awareness Course option in it within FAQ section, it only talks about the fine and penalty points. I am yet to reply the notice but would like to know what are the chances that a Speed Awareness course is issued instead of penalty points. My license is only 5 months old so worried about the 3 points loss. Thanks in advance!!

Dan_Wrexham - Your Question:
Hi.I was doing 41 in a 30mph, is there any chance they will let me do the speed awareness courseCheersDan

Our Response:
The upper limit for the offer of a speed awareness course in a 30mph zone is 42mph, so there's a possibility you could be offered this option. Course are only offered at the discretion of the police though, so it's not a certainty.

Hello, i did a speed awareness course 4 - 5 months ago and I was caught doing 36mph in a 30 and recently I was caught again doing 48mph in a 40. The first time I got caught in Northampton but this time in Essex, because it's in a different district am I able to do the course again or will I get points and a fine?

Hello there, I was cought speeding earlier this month and have posted to apply for the speed awareness course. However, I think I may have been caught again on an average speed check on the A38. Ifor I have indeed been caught again, will I still be able to attend the course for the first offence? Many Thanks

shannon12194 - Your Question:
Hi, a few month ago I got a speeding ticket (34 in a 30) I didn't do the speed awareness course for this. However I think I may have another ticket on way, will I be eligible for the speed awareness course since I didn't do it the first time? Thanks in advance

Our Response:
You can be considered for a speed awareness course if you have not taken one in the previous 3 years and if you were travelling at a speed that falls within the eligibility guidelines for a course.

Hi I got caught doing 57 in a 50, temporary motorway speed limit. In salford, average speed from junction 13-15 on the M60. Will I be likely to be offered a speed awareness course? Or is it different because it is on a temporary speed limit zone. Thanks Josh
Josh - 27-Nov-16 @ 4:27 PM
Hi there i did a speed awareness course about 3 months ago, & unfortunately I was caught doing 59 on a 50 again this month. I was caught last time in Notts but this time in Sheffield, I've been told if it's in a different district I may be able to do the course again, is this true?
