Interactive Checker Speeding Speed

Do you think you've been caught speeding recently?

You may be eligible to take a speed awareness course as an alternative to penalty points (and a fine).

There are several factors that will affect your chances, which is why we've created the SpeedUlator Speed Awareness Course Checker. It's interactive, easy to use and will help you decide what to do next.

Try the Speed-U-Lator here:

Simply click on the relevant answer and you'll be led through the next steps.

If you now know from our checker that you will not be offered a speed awareness course, why not read through some of the other options available to you in our speeding section.

Hi can you tell me the date I did my speed awareness course.

Hi I have participated in a speed awareness course during the last 5 years. I am trying to get insurance and am being asked when I took the course. I did not keep a record. Is there a way I can look up somewhere when I took the course? It took place in Hampshire. Thanks.

Hi, I have been caught speeding at 73mph on 60mph road by a traffic camera. The notice is issued by Devon and Cornwall Police. The NIP received does not specify any Speed Awareness Course option in it within FAQ section, it only talks about the fine and penalty points. I am yet to reply the notice but would like to know what are the chances that a Speed Awareness course is issued instead of penalty points. My license is only 5 months old so worried about the 3 points loss. Thanks in advance!!

Dan_Wrexham - Your Question:
Hi.I was doing 41 in a 30mph, is there any chance they will let me do the speed awareness courseCheersDan

Our Response:
The upper limit for the offer of a speed awareness course in a 30mph zone is 42mph, so there's a possibility you could be offered this option. Course are only offered at the discretion of the police though, so it's not a certainty.

Hello, i did a speed awareness course 4 - 5 months ago and I was caught doing 36mph in a 30 and recently I was caught again doing 48mph in a 40. The first time I got caught in Northampton but this time in Essex, because it's in a different district am I able to do the course again or will I get points and a fine?
RJ - 29-Dec-16 @ 2:43 PM
Hello there, I was cought speeding earlier this month and have posted to apply for the speed awareness course. However, I think I may have been caught again on an average speed check on the A38. Ifor I have indeed been caught again, will I still be able to attend the course for the first offence? Many Thanks

shannon12194 - Your Question:
Hi, a few month ago I got a speeding ticket (34 in a 30) I didn't do the speed awareness course for this. However I think I may have another ticket on way, will I be eligible for the speed awareness course since I didn't do it the first time? Thanks in advance

Our Response:
You can be considered for a speed awareness course if you have not taken one in the previous 3 years and if you were travelling at a speed that falls within the eligibility guidelines for a course.

Hi I got caught doing 57 in a 50, temporary motorway speed limit. In salford, average speed from junction 13-15 on the M60. Will I be likely to be offered a speed awareness course? Or is it different because it is on a temporary speed limit zone. Thanks Josh
Josh - 27-Nov-16 @ 4:27 PM
Hi there i did a speed awareness course about 3 months ago, & unfortunately I was caught doing 59 on a 50 again this month. I was caught last time in Notts but this time in Sheffield, I've been told if it's in a different district I may be able to do the course again, is this true?

mac8 - Your Question:
Helloplease can you help me. I am trying to book a speed awareness course near me, but I cant find any information on courses in Wool, poole or the surrounding area. I know friends who have taken the course in Wool before just wondering how I go about contacting them?i can currently only find course for over an hour away. thanks

Our Response:
It seems that Dorset police do not participate in the National Speed Awareness course scheme. So you will not be able to find a course run by other course providers inside Dorset or participate in one in a neighbouring county. The police therefore, seem to be the only ones who can provide information on where/when courses are held, so you'll have to get back in touch with them directly we're afraid.

Mermaid - Your Question:
Hi. I have been driving for over 35 years and this is my first speeding ticket. I was driving 38 miles hr in a 30 mile hr zone. Will there be a chance I could attend the speeding awareness course please.

Our Response:
A speed awareness course is only offered if the relevant police authority decides it is appropriate. Your speed is within the recommended range for a course, but it's not a definite option - unfortunately you will have to wait for a police decision.

I was driving towards a speed camera last night when it double flashed. There was no car coming the other way and there were lines on both sides of the road. I was checking my speed at the time of the flash and was traveling at 29mph in a 30 zone. Should the camera have flashed.

Our Response:
No, it sounds as though it was a simple clerical error, so you wouldn't be able to dispute it.

Hello, I was caught doing 40 in a 30 (parts of the road change between 30 and 40 so stupidly I thought I was still in a 40 area!) Am I too high to be offered a speed awareness course?
Sam1990 - 30-Jul-16 @ 7:00 AM
Hi, I was caught doing 81mph on the motorway but an average speed camera. I've already done a speed awareness course last year however the letter I have been sent for this offence gives me the option of applying for another course. Am I eligible for this course because I've been offered it in my notice letter?
Bex - 27-Jul-16 @ 10:55 AM
I was Travelling on a Duel Carrigeway in my Citroen Berlingo van at around 5 am on my way to work when I was pulled by a policeman who said I was doing 90Mph and that I was only allowed to go 60 as it was a van. He took me to his car and ran through the checks on myself and the van. He then told me to slow down and that was all. He did not issue me with any documentation or a readout of my speed on his on board camera or anything. I've only been driving 6 months so I am very anxious to find out what may Allen as I need to drive for my job. " Could I be instantly banned for being over the 60Mph limit by 30Mph ... As it is a grey area about a car derived van

Our Response:
Thanks Ed, we did know about this, unfortunately it's a bit of a lengthy procedure to change it, but we will do when we get the time.
